HOW TO THINK ABOUT IAQ
IAQ products fall into four functional categories:
- Filtration – captures contaminants
- Removal – physically removes buildup
- Treatment / Sanitization – sanitizes surfaces; neutralizes odors
- Prevention – keeps systems clean over time
If airflow and filtration aren’t addressed first, advanced IAQ products will underperform.
APRIL-AIRE FILTER RACKS
TECH DESCRIPTION
A deeper filter rack (5”) allows higher-efficiency filtration without restricting airflow, protecting the blower, coil, and duct system while reducing dust circulation.
WHEN TO SELL
- Horizontal System without a filter rack
- Do not sell for up-flow systems without other performed work
- 1” filters currently installed
- Dirty blower wheel or evaporator coil
- Poor filter access or skipped filter changes
- Excess dust complaints
HOW TO PRESENT IT TO THE HOMEOWNER
“Filtration is the foundation of air quality. A deeper filter catches more without choking the system and helps protect the equipment.”
DUCT CLEANING
TECH DESCRIPTION
Duct cleaning physically removes dust, debris, and contaminants from inside the duct system. It is situational, not routine maintenance.
WHEN TO SELL
- Visible debris or buildup inside ducts
- Post-construction or renovation
- Odors clearly tied to ductwork
- Prior to system sanitization or deodorization
HOW TO PRESENT IT
“Duct cleaning makes sense when there’s material inside the system that shouldn’t be there. It’s about removal – not routine upkeep. With proper filtration, you’ll never need to do this again.”
DECON 7 — TWO DISTINCT USE CASES
A. DECON 7 FOGGING
(SYSTEM & DUCT ODOR TREATMENT)
TECH DESCRIPTION
Decon 7 fogging disperses a fine mist through the system and ductwork to neutralize odor-causing compounds and sanitize interior surfaces. It does not remove debris and should be paired with duct cleaning when buildup is present.
WHEN TO SELL
- Persistent smells coming from vents
- After duct cleaning to finish the job
- Odors without visible contamination
- Homes where airflow is clean but smells linger
REQUIREMENTS
- Occupants and pets must vacate treated areas for 1 hour
- Proper dwell time and ventilation required
HOW TO PRESENT IT
“This treatment neutralizes odors and sanitizes the system after it’s been cleaned. It’s the final step once physical debris is removed.”
B. DECON 7 SPRAY
(AIR HANDLER & SYSTEM WIPE-DOWN)
TECH DESCRIPTION
Decon 7 spray is used for direct surface cleaning and sanitization inside the air handler, cabinet, and accessible components. It is applied manually and supports routine IAQ hygiene.
WHEN TO SELL
- Dirty air handler cabinets
- After plenum, duct, or coil work
- Preventative system cleaning
- Customers wanting a “clean system” without fogging
HOW TO PRESENT IT
“This is a hands-on system cleaning that sanitizes the equipment itself. It’s focused and controlled – not a whole-home fog.”
PURE MAINTENANCE
WHOLE-HOME IAQ RESET
TECH DESCRIPTION
Pure Maintenance is a whole-home sanitization process that treats both air and surfaces together. It’s designed to reset the indoor environment when IAQ concerns are widespread or persistent. This is not a spot treatment – it addresses the entire living space at once.
WHEN TO SELL
- Homes with long-standing odor or IAQ complaints
- After major IAQ improvements or system upgrades
- Customers wanting a full indoor “reset”
- Homes with sensitive occupants or high IAQ expectations
REQUIREMENTS
- Occupants and pets must vacate the home for 5-6 hours
- Full protocol (prep, dwell time, ventilation) must be followed
- This is a sanitization reset, not an ongoing protection system
HOW TO PRESENT IT
“This process treats the entire home at once – air and surfaces together – to reset the indoor environment. It’s ideal when the concern isn’t just the system, but the space as a whole.”
DUST FREE ACTIVE GOLD
IN-DUCT AIR PURIFICATION & ODOR REDUCTION
TECH DESCRIPTION
Dust Free Active Gold is an in-duct air purification device that continuously treats air as it passes through the system. It uses a combination of ionization, UV, and photocatalytic reactions to:
- Reduce airborne dust and dander
- Neutralize odors over time
- Inactivate microorganisms in the airstream
It does not remove debris and does not replace filtration or cleaning. It works best in clean, sealed systems.
WHEN TO SELL
- Persistent dust despite good filtration
- Odor concerns without visible buildup
- Customers wanting ongoing IAQ improvement
- Homes with pets or high particulate load
HOW TO PRESENT IT
“This works continuously while the system runs. It helps keep the air cleaner over time, but it works best once the system itself is already clean.”
UV STICK LIGHT
COIL & SURFACE PROTECTION
TECH DESCRIPTION
UV stick lights inhibit biological growth on wet surfaces like evaporator coils. They do not clean the air – they keep critical surfaces clean to maintain airflow and efficiency.
WHEN TO SELL
- Visible growth on evaporator coil
- Chronic moisture at the coil
- High-humidity environments
HOW TO PRESENT IT
“This keeps the coil clean going forward. It’s preventative – it protects airflow and efficiency.”
IAQ BUNDLING GUIDELINES
IAQ works best when layered intentionally:
- Filter rack → foundation
- Duct cleaning → removal
- Decon 7 fogging or spray → targeted sanitization
- Pure Maintenance → whole-home reset
- Dust Free / UV → ongoing prevention
FINAL NOTE
Good IAQ sales are calm, factual, and grounded in what you can see. When IAQ is positioned correctly, it improves comfort, cleanliness, and system performance – without overselling or overcomplicating the job.
